house heaven on 12-inch. a lofty description, but one that fits most excellent unlimited�s latest offering perfectly. in 1990, boy george and simon rogers (the fall) made a record called �generations of love� for george�s post-culture club project, jesus loves you. legendary nyc dj and producer bruce forest was one of several big names brought in to do a set of remixes, and the better days veteran got to work on several contrasting versions of the cut. the mixes heard here, done at london�s famed olympic studios, are slices of utter ecstasy for anyone who has a taste for �90s deep house euphoria and ambient dancefloor excursions, but were unfortunately lost amongst the countless alternate mixes. suffice to say, meu is taking matters into our own hands and has remastered and properly packaged these tracks, directly sourced from forest himself, with the full intention to give this erstwhile dollar-record the respect it deserves. the jazz mix opens with a winding piano solo by andy whitmore (spandau ballet, terence trent d�arby, soul ii soul) that lures the listener into a hypnotic groove that could quite comfortably go on forever but here is constrained by our modesty and the 12-inch format. a teacher by trade, dr mary sullivan bain recorded her musical works to be used as an educational and motivational tool in the miami-dade public school system she taught in. the single was recorded at miami sound recordings, south florida and released in small numbers as a self-published 12 pressing for educational purposes. copies of �do you know black history did not circulate much further than floridas public school libraries and the vaults of some local radio stations when it was released in 1985. produced with no label constraints, mary worked alongside her friend and vocalist herman attaway. she would give him the words and the melody and together they translated her ideas into song. if one wanted to categorise it theyd have to put a copy in a few different boxes � 808s, bass synths, deep chords, live percussion and effects dubbed into the mix. the production leans towards the electronic diy framework that informed the local sound on the south side. whilst the categories are blurred whats clear is that the musicians who made this thought outside of the box.

one more time we choose two little known gems for re-release on 45 rpm single. another single by the same group is pretty in demand by funk 45 collectors. these two sides are not that much known but they certainly deserve the same attention. while funky you is pretty good, uptempo funk, the b-side is the real beauty of this record. love come down is a fine example of chicago soul which has not been re-released yet. hopefully many people appreciate the work behind this release, from both the original musicians as well as those who are responsible for this high quality re-issue.
